Dairy Cottage
A full, back to bare bones, refurbishment of a Victorian barn conversion. A 9 month project including; start to finish project management, three extensions, re-roof, new aluminium windows, new electrics, plumbing and heating with under floor heating with ASHC, solar panels, rain harvesting and landscaping with kitchen garden.
Bulls Lane
Sadly, this 14th Century cottage was severely damaged by a chimney fire.
My primary role, as subcontractor to CSBD Design & Build, was to oversee and carry out the restoration and rebuild of the timber frame roof.
We carried out several repairs to the remaining cruck frame and wallplates before fitting new purlins, collars, king posts and ridge beams. Lastly we fitted new rafters and rebuilt the dormer window, all in air dried oak.
Granary Barn
This little barn was a new build, however it was created almost entirely from reclaimed materials.
I was responsible, along with my trusty colleague, for erecting the frame and roofing the barn.
The frame, bricks and roof tiles were supplied by Suffolk Reclamation.
Some of our projects
Mill Barn
A lovely Victorian barn located on a water mill site. The approach to this restoration was to keep as much of the historic fabric as possible. Firstly I jacked up the collapsing lean-to roof allowing me to re-instate the timber frame wall and re-roof. Some plinth brickwork was also required as was some weatherboarding and general tidying up.
Southridge
The timber frame on this 17th Century farm house suffered irreparable damage due to cement render and faulty rainwater goods.
After propping the frame I dismantled the brickwork before replacing the lower timber frame and finally rebuilding the infill panels using the existing bricks and lime mortar.
